BackgroundGPR109A acts as a receptor for both niacin and (D)-beta-hydroxybutyrate. Secretion of adiponectin increases lipolysis decreases through G(i)-protein-mediated inhibition of adenylyl cyclase, requiring levels of niacin that are much higher than those provided by a normal diet. It also levels niacin-induced apoptosis in mature neutrophils.
